The Circus Circus died in turn 3 approching the start, the American Spirit died while making a crawl to avoid jumping the start. This left just 5 boats to finish the heat. Shortly after the start, the Coors Light ended it's bid for a finish. The Frank Kenny Toyota apparently hit something floating below the surface of the water, kicking its Skid Fin up, causing lost turn control. Eric had to then slow his fast boat down in order to make the turns without the aid of a skid fin, thus causing his 4th place finish.

Winner of the First Consolation became the 7th boat (trailer boat) in the Final heat. The trailer boat in the final has to start a bouy behind everyone else at the start.
