Scale Hydro Construction Part 1
Constructing a 1/8th Scale R/C Unlimited Hydroplane from Plans

For the first time on video, witness the detailed construction of a 1/8th scale R/C unlimited hydro plane from scratch. In this 75 minute video, you'll see scale hydro racer Don Mock build a model of the 1982 Atlas Van Lines*. See the step-by-step process as Don discusses plans, building materials, tools and glues. Follow the initial frame-up, bottom and non-trips, sponsons and decking. Next the engine well, radio box and motor mount are added. Don then takes you through the construction process of the fiberglass/carbon fiber cowling and wings for the boat. From completing the "plugs", to making the molds, and finally laying up the finished parts. Watch as the boat is primered and readied for paint. Don offers numerous construction ideas and tips on everything from gluing, body fillers, sanding and shaping to waterproofing and keeping the hull light. Whether you are a novice or an experienced modeler, this "how-to" video will show you that constructing a scale hydro is an enjoyable project and easier than you might think!

Scale Hydro Construction Part 2
Hardware Installation, Painting, Detailing and Competitive Set-Up of a 1/8th Scale R/C Unlimited Hydroplane.

In this 90 minute video, scale hydro racer Don Mock takes you step-by-step through the installation of the engine, running hardware and radio gear in his 1982 Atlas Van Lines* model. The boat, which was constructed from plans in Part 1, is now painted, detailed and set up to race. We'll then go to the race course to see the boat run in its initial test session. You'll also learn what it takes to complete a factory fiber glass hull including ideas on fuel tank location, motor mounts and radio boxes. We'll meet renowned unlimited designer Ron Jones as he describes his 1/8 scale fiberglass sponsons and see the modular construction of a 1991 Miss Budweiser model using these "Jones" sponsons. We visit with scale hydro "Czar" Roger Newton as he discusses props, drive shafts, skid fin and rudder set-up and much more. The special section on painting includes tips on hull preparation, masking, lettering and graphics. And to put the "scale" into scale hydros we'll look at mini drivers, helmets, steering wheels, dashboards and more. And of course you'll get a up close look at the
