This very unusual and innovative boat was designed and built for the 1969 season. Originally intended for mile straightaway record speed attempts, the design reduced lift by eliminating the air-trap between the cockpit/engine bay and the sponsons. Gaps between the center hull and outrigger sponsons allowed air to escape, reducing lift.. In early 1969, the boat tried unsuccessfully to better the mile straightaway record speed set by Roy Duby in the Miss U.S in 1962. After several days of trying to set the record, the team abandoned the attempt when speeds began to fall and equipment started to run-out. Heerensperger entered the boat in the first five races of the 1969 season with Tommy Fults driving. The boat proved to be very difficult to drive, and despite attempts to improve handling, the hull never improved significantly. The boat's last race was in Tri-Cities, WA, where Fults struggled to achieve the hull's best finish -- a third place. The team decided to withdraw the boat from further competition after the Tri-Cities. This was one of the few Heerensperger innovations which was not ultimately successful. On the closed circuit courses, the design had proved uncompetitive in part due to the lack of air traps which reduced lift but also kept more of the boat in contact with the water.

Scale Bio:
This 3rd generation Jensen Hull is the culmination of 15+ years of R&D. Scratch-Built construction, completed by the hands of David in 1994, this hull made its debut at the Gold Cup in Ellensburg, WA. After some initial gremlins in testing on Saturday, the Pak' went on to win a hard fought race against John Hruby's mighty Circus Circus as it blew over on the 3rd lap heading up the backstretch into the infamous Ellensburg headwind.

After the birth of Jensen's 2 children, this boat has not seen nearly the frequency of racing it once did, but with not much more than updating the power plant, this boat continues to be a strong-contender. Among it's many favorable race qualities, the Pak's ability to aggressively go where it's pointed, at nearly any speed or water condition, has made it one to watch when it comes race-time.
