Bio:

This model was new for 1998 and replaced Harry Gatjens' earlier model of this same boat. The original came to an untimely end when it hit the rocks at the last race of the 1997 R/C Unlimited Championship Series. The new boat comes from a fiberglass hull produced by Bill Fritz of Massilon, Ohio. After extensive finishing in the shops of Don Mock and Lee Robertson, the boat made it's debut half way through the 1998 season.

While new boat blues have kept the boat out of the winner's circle, it has proven to be quite competitive coming in first in 48% of heats entered and over 80% of heats finished.

The boat was badly damaged in it's fourth race when, at the Gold Cup, it hit some rough water and bounced in front of Bill Brandt's Miss Vernors. The outside sponson was torn off and the remainder of the season looked doubtful. Luckily, Don Mock came to the rescue and had the boat repaired before the next race. It looked ugly, but ran good as new. By the second following race the boat was repainted and looked good as new.

The winter of 1998 was spent refining the details of the boat in expectation of a strong showing in 1999.

This model was molded from Harry Gatjens' earlier model of the "Turbine 2" Miss Budweiser. The original boat was built from Ron Jones sponson canoes with the remainder of the boat designed by Roland DeSteese and constructed by Don Mock. A change in powerplants in 1996 led to greatly increased reliability in this always speedy craft.

Harry Gatjens just completed his eleventh season in R/C Unlimiteds. Due to the midseason debut of the new boat, he didn't finish as well as he had in 1997, but still finished overall eighth in the season standings for drivers.
