Larry Oberto, Director of Sports Marketing at Oberto Sausage Co., announced on Friday February 28th that the Oberto Sausage Co. would be the series sponsor for R/CU in the year 2003. It will be called the Oh Boy! Oberto Championship Series.

Patty Alfonso, Larry Oberto's Assistant, and Chet Lepinski, R/CU treasurer, have been working on the sponsorship since October 9, 2002. Both of them have some great ideas to help promote Oberto and R/CU. Oberto Sausage Co. will be celebrating their 85th year in business and R/CU will be starting its 30th year of racing 1/8th scale radio controlled unlimited hydroplanes. Yes Roger Newton, R/CU has come a long way in thirty years.

At to age of 16 Art Oberto took over the helm of the Oberto Sausage Co. in 1947 after the death of his dad. In 1975 one of Art's unique marketing tools was hydroplaning. Oberto sponsored a red-white- and green "pepperoni-powered" hydroplane till 1994. That lodged the Oberto brand permanently in the hearts of race fans everywhere. Its fans were very pleased when in 2000 the Oberto boat was back on the hydroplane circuit. Art now serves as Chairman of the Board.

It looks like the R/CU club will be "pepperoni powered" this year. Patty and Chet will be working with each other and reports will be forth coming.
