11/10/2009 - Sad News
Tonight at 9:00, Sandy Lepinski (the wife of Chet the Jet and mother of Brian Lepinski) went to be with the Lord. She went without any pain and her family was at her side. Scott Meyers was there for Chet and Brian. Chet asks that no flowers be sent; however, he would rather donations be made to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, WA in her name. Chet was looking forward to spend this next racing season with her.
Chet thanks all of you for the many prayers. Sandy went to be with her daughter Jackie. Both of whom are missed terribly.

4/10/2009 - Mike Cathey is back Home!
Hi everyone,
I'm home from the hospital and am reasonably well. My abdomen is still sore because I still have about 2 quarts of blood floating around the outside of my organs. The docs say this will take a few weeks to re-absorb back into my system. Right now it is just kind of a tight, bloated and crampy feeling. I guess raw blood on the outside of your gizzards acts as an irritant. I'm still pretty weak, but gaining strength by the day. The Bible says there is Life in the blood. I can attest than is true! Once I started receiving blood transfusions I started to feel better. The problem was it was leaking out almost as fast as it was going in. I ended up receiving 5 units of blood so I also thank whomever it was that took the time to donate blood. Something that will be on my agenda to do as soon as I can. The hospital performs dozens of gall bladder removals a week (mine was definitely a bad actor-full of stones) without any complications whatsoever. I drew the short straw on that deal. On the other hand, if they had to open me up to fix the bleeding, I would have been 6-8 weeks in recovering from that somewhat dicey surgery. I'm hoping to return to work maybe late next week.
Thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, cards, hospital visits, phone calls, people preparing meals, and offers of assistance. I also thank you for the support of my wife during this time. You never really know how many people's path you cross until something like this happens. The huge outpouring of support has been very touching and humbling. When your health is threatened all other supposedly important issues just slip away. It has definitely been a recalibration to me about what is truly important. I can't say enough good things about the care I received at Evergreen Hospital.
This puts a whole new meaning to Easter and our Risen Lord for me this year. Things were looking pretty grim Monday night as I was on the verge of being opened up from stem to stern to find out where the bleeding was coming from and to evacuate all the accumulated blood in my abdomen. Several of my brothers and sisters from our home fellowship/Bible Study group came to the hospital to pray over me Tuesday morning. From that point on the bleeding stopped and I started to recover. Coincidence-I think not.
In the midst of all this I knew that Jesus had my back and I really had nothing to worry about. My only regret was that there were still some things I had hoped to accomplish serving Him in this life. As I write this I look forward to a new life joining us as my youngest daughter is within days of having her second daughter. The Bible says He will make all things new, and I feel like I too have another shot.
Happy Easter, Mike
He is Risen Indeed.
4/7/2009 - Mike Cathey's condition
You may or may not know that Mike had surgery last Thursday to remove his gallbladder. He went home the same day and was looking good when I saw him on Friday-. On Sunday morning he was in tremendous pain and had to be taken back to the hospital due to internal bleeding. They admitted him to the intensive care unit and have been waiting to see if the problem might correct itself. They have given him multiple units of blood and he was feeling pretty good on Monday and was talking about going to the test session this Saturday& It is now Tuesday evening and after CT scans and ultrasounds they are still debating whether to do emergency surgery or not..
Please keep Mike in your thoughts and prayers,
Contact Jack Carson regarding the process on how to get in the gate in Ellensburg as I m sure Mike will not be able to be at the test session-

4/5/2009 - Race Updates
On a beautiful calm and sunny day, R/C Unlimiteds representatives Chet Lepinski, Brian Lepinski and Randy Gosseen brought four 1/8th scale hydroplanes to the front entrance of the Kennewick Hobbytown USA. Bill Brandt had his trailer there filled with 5 boats. A lot of people picked up our race schedule for this year and said that they would like to see our first race in two weeks. The Oberto pennants emblazoned around the tents and our trailer really helped set our racing spirit. If you notice the pictures, The Oberto is getting the checkered flag ahead of the Budweiser.

3/30/2009 - Want to Race?
Now Anyone Can Experience the Thrill of Driving a Race Boat
Boat racing in America goes back to the turn of the last century, and the American Power Boat Association is the organization that has provided leadership to the sport since 1903. But never before has the APBA taken such an active role in making boat racing available to racing enthusiasts who want to see if boat racing is for them. "Making it possible for more people to experience the thrill and excitement of boat racing has to be an important part of our mission", said Mark Weber, President of the APBA. "I was lucky enough to grow up in a family of boat racers. I didn't need to find a way to see if it was the sport for me." To accomplish this goal, APBA is announcing a program called 'The Ride of a Lifetime' - the American Power Boat Association Driving School. Featuring four separate types of race boats - Junior Class outboard hydroplanes, C Stock hydroplanes, powerful 5 Litre Inboard hydros and SST 120 Tunnel hulls - the school includes classroom sessions and on-the-water driving conducted over a weekend. The instructors, all experienced race drivers, will teach students racing terminology, safety and boat handling skills. Chris Fairchild, Brandon Thirlby, Dan Kanfoush, Mark Weber and Mark Wheeler will be the instructors for the first School. The APBA provides students with properly fitting helmets, life jackets, driving suits (and, on those boats equipped with safety capsules, onboard air systems). Safety will be the highest priority. Students who will drive safety capsule-equipped boats (5 Litre Inboards and SST 120 OPCs) will take the same training that APBA racers receive, learning how to use the onboard air system and techniques to safely exit a flipped boat. A highly qualified rescue team will be on the water at all times when a student is on the course. Costs for the weekend school range from $50.00 for the Junior Class students (ages 9-16) to $200.00 for the 5 Litre Inboard or SST 120 tunnel boat classes. A student may even try both 5 Litre and SST 120 for $300.00. The first Ride of a Lifetime Driving School takes place May 30-31 in Dayton, Ohio, on Eastwood Lake. Visit www.apba-racing.com for more information. A flyer, brochure and application form are available online. Contact: Mark Weber 586-773-9700 mweber55@sbcglobal.net

They knocked the price down a $1 a gallon as a discount, but the shipping moved it back up to $32 a gallon.

The Race Schedule has been updated with our joint races with UNW and the location of the President's Cup has been finalized.
1/6/2009 - UNW Fuel Buy - URGENT
From Mike Cathey - I don't know how many of you have been following the situation regarding the worldwide shiortage of nitromethane, including model fuel. Our normal supplier (FHS) has none and won't know when the will. Same story for O'Donnel, Byron Originals and most of the others.
Now for the good news. We have found a reputable supplier (who comes highly recommended by some well respected racers) who can fill our order. Given that clubs all over the country are looking to make club buys it behooves us to get this moving right away.
Here are some of the facts around this years order which is as usual being handled by Rick Arena.
#1. The highest nitro content we can get is 50%. That's it-no point in calling or emailing Rick Arena to see if you can get 60%. About half the club use 50% anyway.
#2. The cost is $31.06 per gallon plus shipping, which usually runs around $1 a gallon. This price is for 30 cases. Our normal order is 60-90 cases.
The price should go down accordingly once we order over 30 cases. We won't have that final number until everyone places their order. We can also determine shipping costs at that point.;
#3. So that we can determine the final cost of the fuel per case and shipping you will have to let Rick Arena know how much you want no later than Monday January 19th. PLEASE STAY WITH YOUR NUMBER BECAUSE IF IT CHANGES THEN IT SCREWS UP THE WHOLE ORDER FOR EVERYBODY. BY JANUARY 21ST THE COST PER CASE (INCLUDING SHIPPING) WILL APPEAR ON THE UNW WEBSITE. www.unlimitedsnw.org
That gives everyone one week to figure out the cost of their order and get their money to Rick.
#4. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR MONEY IN RICK'S HANDS NO LATER THAN JANUARY 28TH TO BE INCLUDED IN THE BUY.
#5. You must order in full case quanities.
#6. Only checks or Postal Money orders will accepted-no cash. Make both payable to Ricardo Arena.
Watch the UNW website for the pick up date and location.
