5/1/2012 - Bill Muncey Memorial Results
The results of the Bill Muncey Memorial race have been posted to the site. See the Race Schedule and Drivers Standings for the updated results.
4/26/2012 - R/C Unlimiteds goes all Bill Muncey on it this weekend.

The 2012 model hydroplane racing season hits full stride this weekend with the running of the Bill Muncey Memorial race on the Irene Reinhardt Riverfront Lake in Ellensburg. This will be the first of six visits to Ellensburg for R/C Unlimiteds this season. R/CU will be hosting sister club Unlimiteds Northwest on Saturday as they make up a previously postponed race on Saturday. The R/CU Bill Muncey memorial will be raced on Sunday. Both clubs are encouraging all of their racers to race in both events.
4/16/2012 - Atomic Cup
Our season opener Atomic Cup race has been posted to the site. The Race Schedule and Drivers Standings have been updated.
4/10/2012 - We're finally ready to go racin' this weekend at The Atomic Cup, in Two Rivers Park!
The 2012 R/CU season is set to get underway this weekend, April 14 and 15th, at Two Rivers Park in Kennewick, Washington with the annual running of the Atomic Cup. All over the pacific northwest, 1/8th scale model boat shops are busy, readying their entries in what promises to be a great race with perfect racing conditions; cool air, bright sun, and calm water. The rumor mill is alive with the usual pre-season crackle of racing fever. Just who has what up their sleeves this year? We begin to find out this weekend.
As we begin the season, we will be missing one of the great racing personalities in R/CU history as veteran driver / owner Dave 'Night train' Blacksten recuperates at his home in Canby, Oregon from a recent heart surgery. The R/CU Board respectfully dedicates this opening race to our dear friend and fellow racer as we all offer our hopes and prayers for a recovery every bit as speedy as his famous lane six starts. God Bless, Dave! Get well soon. Those of us who have lined up against you know that it is very hard for you to do this, but please... pace yourself!
For fans watching the race, this is the home turf opener for the eastern Washington racers. They practice here all winter long, tuning and refining their boats and they know every ripple and idiosyncrasy of this race course. They defend it as if the park itself wasn't public property. For those of us making the journey from the west side, it is our job to go on over and swat the hornet's nest, to see if we can't sneak an early season win from these east side bullies. All in good fun- the 'first race rust' gets knocked off quickly and by the final winner take all heat, everybody remembers how to run for the hardware once again!
If you are thinking about charging up your boat- get a move on, pack it up and come to Two Rivers this weekend. If you just want to witness the most remarkable entertainment event happening anywhere in the Tri Cities area, head on down to the beach- at Two Rivers Park!
4/3/2012 - Dave Blacksten
Dave Blacksten has had a major heart attack early this morning. He was transported to Saint Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon. His main artery to his heart had a 95% blockage and two other arteries were just as bad. He has had several procedures done so far and doctors are planning the next step. He is currently in the intensive care unit. Our prayers go out to him and his family.
4/2/2012 - UNW & RCU race
Due to high winds and very heavy rain the UNW Atomic Cup had to be cancelled. UNW will be joining R/C U at the Bill Muncey Memorial race on April 28th for a make up race. R/C U welcomes UNW.
Testing will be limited both days due to the high number of competitors expected. Gas Scales will also be running.
3/28/2012 - Stolen Hydroplanes
Atlas Van Lines $500 REWARD!!!** Esquire Products
Thieves in
OUR Bothell Community (212th ST SW, area)!
Remote Control (R/C) Hydroplanes (43” Long x 23” Wide) Not easy to hide! Someone locally knows about the theft of these boats!!! $500 REWARD for return**!! Call, or TEXT to claim the reward!!! (Theft date: late Friday March 23rd, early Saturday AM, the 24th)
Call: (425) 830-8137 TEXT: (425) 830-8137 (anonymous tips accepted, and eligible for reward!!! This is not a Police contact #)
The owner of these Hydroplanes, Kirk, has been racing R/C Scale Hydroplanes for more than 15 years and would help anyone that asked him. He is currently a board member of one, and participant in both of the large, Northwest 1/8th scale R/C clubs. Additionally, he is connected to the Hydroplane And Raceboat Museum in Kent (HARM). Our NAMBA affiliation guarantees that this flier will be distributed NATIONWIDE and THROUGHOUT CANADA. There are tens of thousands of people that this flier will be distributed to electronically. And from there, it will be shared with friends of those friends. These boats will never see the water in the United States or Canada, never be pawned, never be sold, without someone being arrested and charged!!! The best option right now is for the thieves to return these boats anonymously, and collect this reward. Soon, this reward will be retracted, and full charges will be pursued. The thieves do not have the motors, the radio gear, or any other components to make these boats functional… RETURN THESE BOATS TODAY, by setting them beside the house you took them from, and then make contact as shown above. By any method, leave contact information, and the reward will be paid with no questions asked, but only for a few days after this flier is distributed… Additionally, know, many of Kirks friends will be going door to door soon, to inform the local community with this information, and searching for these Hydroplanes!

3/13/2012 - R/CU Announces Race Site Change for the Diamond Cup
The race site location for the 2012 R/CU Diamond Cup has been changed from the gravel quarry pond near Rock Island, Washington, to Irene Reinhardt Park, in Ellensburg. Due to prohibitive insurance requirements stemming from the current use of the site for gravel excavation, the Rock Island venue is unavailable for all racing until the leaseholder completes their dredging contract in 2015. Our sincere appreciation goes out to the City of Rock Island and to the quarry leaseholder for making every attempt to reach a workable solution.
As we move to familiar digs for the Diamond Cup race, we will retain the original August 25 and 26th dates on the R/CU season calendar. All R/CU racers should take note of this venue change before making reservations in Wenatchee- because the Diamond Cup will be raced in Ellensburg this year! A big R/CU thank-you goes out to Mr. Brad Case and Ms. Diane Starkweather of the City of Ellensburg for their assistance above and beyond the call of duty in accommodating our short notice schedule change.
